Spinner Fidgets:
The New Fad for Tweeners Are Causing Problems at School.

Recently a Skylert text to voice message was sent to Oaklawn families banning fidgets at school for now.  The latest fad of spinner fidgets had become a real problem, especially in the upper grades.  Any child who has an IEP or other accommodation plan and whose focus is improved by using a fidget can still use one-just not a spinner fidget.  There are plenty of low tech fidgets that student have been successfully using as tools to help them focus in school for years.  However, this latest fad of spinner fidgets are being used as toys, not tools, by many students.  The finger spinning tricks that students do with them can be very distracting in the classroom.  Also, because the spinner fidgets are so popular right now, many problems have occurred because students are trading, mixing up and stealing them.  Your child might find a spinner fidget great for a long car ride, but here at school we are saying "No".
